Whether we fall by ambition, blood or lust, like diamonds we are cut with our own dust.

As the widowed Duchess of Malfi searches for a new husband her eye falls fatally on her servant Antonio. Determined to pursue him at any cost she marries in secret blithely convinced her proud and jealous brothers will never find out.

In August 2014 Pell Mell tackled Webster's bloody and poetic tale of madness, lust and family ties. Inspired by everything from German expressionism to 80's electro-synth the production created a surreal and nightmarish setting for this brutal Jacobean tragedy.

Advising the company on their interpretation was Dr Lynn Robson of Oxford University, a specialist in Early Modern Literature and the charity Mind in Camden who worked with our performers and creatives to help interpret and understand Webter's depiction of mental instability.

A totally engrossing production of Webster's phenomenal tragedy... if you see any fringe theatre this year this is it!
